OUR HISTORY
In 2007, the KCC was founded by four young Tanzanian men who shared a passion for education and creative activities. Having experienced poverty, lack of access to education, and street life firsthand, we were driven by a shared vision: to create a space where children and youth could learn, grow, and build a better future.

In our early days, we operated from a space provided by the government, which served as both our office and community centre. As our programs expanded, we worked to transform this space — adapting it, improving it, and making it a true place of learning and creativity. However, our dream was always to have a permanent home. With this vision in mind, we purchased land, and after years of effort, we finally built our new KCC site, creating more space and opportunities for the community.

Alongside the community centre, we also saw the urgent need for a safe space for children without stable homes. We started by renting a house to serve as our first children's shelter, providing accommodation, care, and support. Over time, the project grew, and we were able to secure a permanent home for the shelter by purchasing an existing house. This gave us more space, new opportunities, and a stable environment for the children in our care.

As we developed, we also built connections beyond Tanzania. The arrival of international volunteers marked the beginning of a growing global network, particularly through partnerships with schools and organizations in Germany. These collaborations brought resources and friendships that continue to enrich our work today. But our journey is far from over.
OLD KCC - NEW KCC
In the summer of 2024, the Kigamboni Community Centre moved to its current location after the old site had to be demolished. This transition was not only mandatory, but also an opportunity to expand and create better facilities for our programs. To avoid interrupting our activities, all programs were temporarily hosted at the KCC Children's Home. While the new center is already in use, construction is still ongoing as we continue to develop and improve the space.

OUR FUTURE
Our vision continues to grow, and we have big plans for the future. We aim to expand our impact by building a small community hospital with its own doctors and medical care, ensuring that basic healthcare is accessible to those in need. Education remains at the heart of our mission, which is why we are also planning to build a primary school to provide quality education from an early age. Additionally, we want to create a dedicated volunteer house to accommodate those who come to support our work. The land for these projects is already secured — now it's time to start building.

At the Children's Home, we plan to renovate and improve the space to create a better balance between privacy for the children and a welcoming community environment. In the long term, we also hope to establish a community centre at the shelter location, offering even more opportunities for learning and social engagement.
A key part of our future is also providing professional training opportunities that meet national certification standards. Our goal is to establish official vocational training programs, enabling young people and adults to gain recognized qualifications that improve their job prospects and help build a sustainable future. By creating pathways to employment and self-sufficiency, we aim to empower the community not just for today, but for generations to come.
Beyond these projects, we are committed to empowering people through skills training and education, helping individuals gain qualifications that will open doors to better futures. Step by step, we continue working toward a stronger, more self-sufficient community—built by and for the people of Kigamboni.
